They say if you really love someone, let them go. This song is about trying to come to grips with someone that walks out of your life, and about the mental process of wondering what it might take to get them back. I wrote a majority of this song in March of 2014, and came back to it in February of 2016.
lyrics
If I told you a story with an ending that didn't quite fit. If I told you a riddle, would it tear you apart at the seams? If I wrote you a letter, would you let the ink run from my veins? If I gave you a lecture, would you turn and walk away? If I offered you all that I had, would you come back to me? If I marched to hell and back, would you just let me bleed? If I told you I'm sorry, would it mean anything? If I told you I loved you, would you ever be able to believe? If I offered you all that I had, would you come back to me? If I marched to hell and back, would just let me bleed? If told you I'm sorry, would it mean anything? If I told you I loved you, would you ever believe in me? I've read this story a thousand times. The one where she's walking right on out of my life. It's only a thing, that's all that it's been, but I still can't believe that neither can win. This game that we're playing was rigged from the start, and neither is sure who's breaking who's heart. The time for decisions had long since passed, but he still saw the chance, so he asked her to dance.
